ABOUT BIODIESEL
Bio diesel is an alternative fuel produced from renewable, sustainable resources, such as soybean oil, rapeseed oil (canola oil), or animal fats. It can be used to power any diesel engine without any modifications. 100% biodiesel or B100 may be used as fuel as is, or it can be combined with petroleum diesel to create blends. A commonly used blend is B20, which is 20% biodiesel and 80% petroleum diesel. Biodiesel is one of the safest fuels to handle, store and use. The flash point of biodiesel is 150C (300F), much higher than the flash point of petroleum diesel 70C (150F). Transportation, storage and distribution methods for bio diesel and bio diesel blends are exactly the same as those of petroleum diesel. The Amber biodiesel we deliver to you is the highest quality ASTM certified biodiesel.
BIODIESEL AND THE ENVIRONMENT
Using biodiesel greatly reduces emissions. The EPA states, that by using B100, carbon dioxide emissions are reduced by 78%, carbon monoxide by 48% and hydrocarbons by 67%. Particulate matter is reduced by 47% and sulfur dioxide by 100%. The ozone (smog) forming potential of hydrocarbon exhaust emissions from biodiesel is 50% less than that of petroleum diesel. Biodiesel emissions have reduced cancer-causing levels of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAH) and Nitrated Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (NPAH) compounds by 80–90%. Our biodiesel blends provide proportional emission reductions, as well as other benefits. Biodiesel also provides us with sustainable energy. For every unit of fossil fuel energy consumed to produce biodiesel, 3.2 units of energy are gained. In contrast, 1.2 units of fossil resources are used to produce a single unit of petroleum diesel. This is significant to our energy independence, since every gallon of biodiesel used has the potential to displace the need for four gallons of imported petroleum. B100 is as biodegradable as dextrose (sugar) and less toxic than table salt. Biodiesel will biodegrade up to four times faster than petroleum diesel, with up to 98% biodegrading in three weeks.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q: What are some of the benefits for fleet managers using biodiesel in their generators and trucks versus petroleum diesel?
A: Biodiesel is a safe, clean, superior fuel for diesel engines. The outstanding properties of biodiesel: high lubricity, cetane index and flash point, enhance the performance of diesel engines. In addition to promoting safer, cleaner working conditions, your diesel equipment performs better, and lasts longer, with less maintenance.
Q: Is there a price difference versus petroleum diesel?
A: The price of B20 and B99.9 is competitive with petroleum diesel. Biodiesel and petroleum diesel prices are driven different market factors, but the benefits of biodiesel to environment and to your equipment remain constant. lifetime value that using biodiesel creates, in safety, reduced operating costs, and positive environmental impact usually offsets the differences in cost.
Q: What is the process of ordering biodiesel and how long does it take?
A: Amber biodiesel will work with each customer’s individual needs, and we will deliver biodiesel wherever and whenever it is needed.
Q: Are there any problems or side effects with biodiesel?
A: Biodiesel handles like petroleum diesel and uses the same infrastructure for transport, storage and use. At higher blend levels biodiesel may deteriorate natural rubber or polyurethane foam materials used in older equipment. Viton hoses and gaskets are a good replacement. Biodiesel is also a highly effective solvent and will dissolve engine deposits. For this reason older engines using higher blends should change fuel filters until all deposits of petroleum diesel have been removed from the system.
Q: Can our current engines use biodiesel now or do they need to be converted in any way?
A: No conversion is necessary in any diesel engine. Rubber hoses and rubber gaskets do not have to be changed when using B20 blends. If the generators or trucks have Viton hoses and gaskets then no conversion is necessary when using B99.9.
